Centering world map?

What exactly does centering the world map do for you?

Until you "Center" The map, you are the center of your own universe. You don't know where you are in relation to the other continents/land mass etc.

Once you center the map, your physical location in the world is accuratley represented on the mini-map. It can be a slight advantage in helping you predict where other land masses might exist when you send your ships out exploring.

It can also be a curse when your empire ends up on the crack of the world (so half is on the left of the minimap and half is on the right) .
