  • Great Library Bug?

I havn't found mention of this elsewhere in the forums, so maybe it's just me but...

On the last three games I've played (Marathon / Prince / Terra / Large / 16) I've seen two worrisome things related to the Great Library.

In the first two games the AI built the GL, however even after it was to have expired they still got their great scientists whenever two or more civs got the same tech.

In the third I built the GL and I've yet to receive any great scientists despite two or three other civs having the techs that I don't.

Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just missing something noobish about how the GL is supposed to work?

You don't get great scientists, you just get those special scientist citizens when you build it (the same as if you take a great scientist and make him join the city)
This space is empty... or is it?

The Great Library is not the same thing as it used to be in Civ3. In Civ4, it gives you two free scientist specialists in the city where it is built. They act just like a specialist you could normally assign once you build a normal library. Look in your city after you build the library, and you will see them at the bottom of the screen where you normally see super-specialists. Furthermore, wonders are only obsoleted when the owner of the wonder researches the obsoleting tech, not another civilization (unlike previous civ games).

It doesn't have anything to do with other civs knowing techs and you don't, it doesn't work that way anymore. All it does is give you 2 free Scientists and some Great Scientist points. And some culture of course.

And the Wonder which works the way the old Great Library did is the Internet. (This makes a BIG difference to the way that particular Wonder features in a game-plan.)
Participating in my threads is mandatory. Those who do not do so will be forced, in their next game, to play a power directly between Catherine and Montezuma.
