  • Save names

I don't know how it happened, but I've become accustomed to naming my save games with puns (or other humor) based upon the name of my civ or leader. Here's some of my favorites from the past:

    SumerInTheCity
    InSpainInTheMembrane
    ALouisOop
    Inca_pacitated
    ARooseveltByAnyOtherName
    ItsAllGreekToMe
    WhenInRome
    RockLikeAnEgyptian

I know there's been others, but that's all I've got off the top of my head. I'm probably the only one who does this, I'm just curious if any one else has any odd save naming behavior.

You probably are, in fact, the only one who does this

I use the defaults, sometimes adding a word or two at key points so I know I can reload from that specific point if I manage to Screw It The Hell Up.

I also add WAR to the end of every save I'm at war with, in the event my latest save caused me to Do Something Stupid.
      It's a CB.

I always use the default name, much easier that way.

Defaults + a word or two so I know which game it is
"You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.
Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess."

I always give my save games proper names as well. My current one is called FightingForLand because it's too small a map for the number of civs, leading to a lot of land competition. My previous game was called SpanishHoliday because random chose Spain for me right after I'd been on holiday there.

Multiplayer games are similarly named weirdly!

Mmm, I should probably start labelling my games... If I even wanted to try playing a specific old game I'd spend an hour going through poorly labelled files....

In Civ 4, I go for the Country## method. For example American01, German03, etc. I did something similar for the other games. I don't really like the default naming scheme.

I've only got two saves for each game, and they are always called:
Adagio - this is the save I always use
Extra - Taking a backup of the game from time to time, in case the first file gets corrupted

This goes for all my games...

I don't see a need to keep my saves, as I have never been interested in trying an old game again
This space is empty... or is it?

Just look at the creation date.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
