  • How About Assasinations?

I think it would be cool to have the ability to send a spy into enemy territory and assasinate a Great Person.

It would certainly hurt to lose one and then if discovered it could spark massive retribution.

In fact an earlier assasin unit for this purpose alone would be a cool addition. Maybe somewhere in the Medeival period?

But historically great scientists and artists and merchants weren't assasinated too often if ever.

Perhaps something a bit less harsh than assassinating great people would be a spy mission carried out in an enemy capital against a government leader. A successful mission would result in anarchy for a few turns, which would be helpful in a tight space race, but not nearly so frustrating as losing that great person you spent 300 years generating.

          Great Prophets, though...

For great scientists, artists, and merchants, it's be more accurate if there was some way to "steal" them from your enemies. Especally if your enemy is running a police state.

They get bummed off by their own people, not the enemy

I prefer not. If you could do that the other side needs to be given the ability to post guards and such. Then if you manage to "steal" one the other side should be able to chase you down, etc. The game is complex enough.

I reckon you should be able to have a chance to capture a GP if you capture a city where one is a super specialist.

That's definitely a no. Ideology should be kept out of the game.

How many were actually assasinated (as opposed to put to death by the state)?

Plenty of great people have thrived in Police States. Like it or not there were brilliant minds in Hitler’s regime and Robspierre’s. People who believed in the goals of the state they were working for too and, due to their ideological commitment would probably have been the very hardest to win away. Democracy and liberalism have no stranglehold on the minds of the great thinkers.

How about an 'assassate prominant scientists' mission that eliminates some of a rivals accumulated research? A probe team unit would be nice too...

I think it would be cool to assassinate the actual leader.

get rid of Napolean for a less aggressive french leader.

Dis thats nice but what about when a civ only has one leader.

You are right about that LordShiva. But we are going to have to wati until each Civ has several leaders and it's not real sporting if you dont let the AI do it to you. That could be a good game mechanism the AI recognises your strategy aqnd decides you need the financial trait to win- puf goes your leader and stuck you are with another.

                              thems the breaks.

That'd be cool. Obviously there would be diplomatic consequences to do this. Most democratic style goverments should oppose this while police states etc would be okay with it.

and yes ever civ would need to have at least 2 leaders.
