After overcoming significant reservations I was convinced to try CIV4 by the reviews of Vel and Yin. And, I liked what I found, much to my surprise. The look and feel was right, and as Vel said there are interesting choices (unlike CivIII).
Now my interested has cooled to dull embers. The reason? The game is chronically unstable and I’ve only been able to get one game to the end before a fatal crash or the game simply…stopping. I’ve installed the 1.52, checked my drivers at the Dell web site, and have found no hardware compatibility problems. I have to say that I’m disappointed that my system that (slightly) exceeds the recommended specifications can’t handle Civ4, and can’t believe these types of issues didn’t come up in beta testing. What was Firaxis thinking?
Oh, well. I guess I’ll go back home to SMAX. At least in 1999 Firaxis designed stable games.
