I just started a new game and was first to found confucism. I had a great prophet and built the shrine. Then I sent a missionary to the only other civ I have contact with so far... Japan. But could not get in and they would not sign an open borders agreement. So I spread it to my other 2 cities. Anyway right after that turn my religion spread into two cities in Japan and was adopted as their state religion. Having no trade routes or open borders with Japan I was wondering how the religion spread so quickly to them with no effort on my part?
