Catastrophic error

    Catastrophic error

    Okay, here is my little deliema...maybe not so little...I have tried several times to install Civilization 4 to my PC with absolutly no success. I get through the first disc with absolutly no problem, then when I am prompted to insert the second disc, I do so and I get this message that says "catastrophic error". Once that message pops up, it totally closes the whole installation process. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place and any, and I mean ANY, advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Do you have a friend with a machine that you could try the installation on? That could point to the fault either being the machine or the disk.

    Have you tried taking the game back for an exchange in case it is the disk?

      I have tried installing it on all 5 computers that I have in this house and it is the same thing over and over again. I wish that I could take the disc back and exchamge them but that would be impossible.

        Why would that be impossible?

        It certainly does sound like you got a bad cd.

          it would be impossible because I have no idea where I got the cd from. It was given to me by a friend who I am not able to get in contact with since he has left the country. Looks like I'll just have to go out and buy another copy. Thanks for the help

            Catastrophic Error

            I just bought Civ 4 and I get the same error. I get through Disk 1 fine, but loading Disk 2 I get a catastrophic error. I called support and some guy answered, said they were CLOSED until Monday and hung up.

            So not only does the game not work, their staff is RUDE!

              Civ4 comes in 2 disc versions? Mine was only on 1 DVD.

              Sorry, can't help on the issue though.

                I tried to get my money back from Best Buy. Naturally they made me exchange the game for the same thing. I just tried it again with a new CD and got the same error. I've been checking other boards and reviews and apparently MANY people are experiencing the same problem, both with the game and with tech support.

                I can PROMISE you, this is the last game I buy from these people.

                  Hi people, if there's already an existing thread on the same problem, please use that instead of starting a new thread.

                  I realise how annoying your problem can be, but you maybe able to find a solution to your problem if you look first.
