  • Volcanoes/Earthquakes and Tsunamis

    Hi
Just an idea for either an expansion/Mod
Hows about Volcanoes ( already done with Civ3)
Earthquakes and Tsunamis ( already done with AC)
IMHO it would be great to see these things occur randomly as all major civilisations have encountered natural disasters during some time in there history
And too see it on CIV4 3d map would be great..
Could any experienced modders create this?????

I believe it wasn't included as some people don't like to have too many random factors play a role in the game, where you can do nothing to protect yourself from it

IMHO if they include it in an XP, they should also make it optional
This space is empty... or is it?

I struggle to the see the fun provided by finally getting on top of your first Diety game only to have your captial halved by a tidal wave. or your finance cities towns flattened by an unprecedented volcano.

I've always liked the idea of random disasters, but I think that they should be optional. I think that the volcanoes were added in a XP pack for Civ3, so maybe Firaxis will add such a thing in an expansion for Civ 4.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

Natural disasters would add another layer of realism to the game.

As a caveat, though, I'd tie them down a bit. IOW, unless you build a city next to what is clearly marked as a volcano on a map, it won't be damaged/destroyed by a volcanic eruption. If you build on a land square with no rivers in it, there's no chance of flooding. If you build near a swamp and/or jungle, the odds of having a plague rise a bit, modified, of course, by technological advances (such as medicine). The list goes on an on: earthquakes, for example, could be limited to Earth maps, and then only to known subduction zones.

Heh. Probably easier said than to implement, programming-wise.

I would like to see natural disasters. I asked this after the tsunami last year (perhaps it was poor timing ). But how can you not include something that wiped out such a sizable population?

I derived great joy in seeing volcanos wipe out AI cities. .

I'm pretty sure there are already mod/s for these sorts of things. Have a look around the creation section and you should be able to find some.

                          Floods? Tsunamis? Earthquakes?

Not a bad idea, but if you include them, they need to include the civilization Atlantis.....

                          Starts with Fishing/Mysticism
Has 1.3 modifier on research (advanced), and has three times the random events that could occur.
