I'm sure it's more like the forum software doesn't support what it says it supports.

It also ended up with iron within the city radius. However, there isn't a horse any where close.

        Bad start for Russian warmongers.

Mmm, and you're a civ that starts with Hunting too! (Snag construction and take the circus to town*!)

          Town's of enemies.

I can only imagine what it must smell like around there. No pigs though. What difficutly/speed is it?

For anyone who's looking for a gentle introduction to Emperor level, here's a good start:

that turns into a great start after settling:

Here's the save. Other details: island map, normal speed, standard size, George Washington.

Sigh. How can you guys be so lucky !!!

Sometimes, just out of curiosity, I want to see how fast I can win a SS victory with a good start, so I keep reloading and reloading but I've never got anything close to these starts. The best start I've got was one gold mine, one pig, one cow, one corn, and 3 flood plains and that was so memorable I still remember the locations of each of those resources months later. Most of the time, I only get two so-so resources, none of them help lift the happiness cap at the beginning of the game and almost never get stones/marble within the capitol's fat cross.

I don't normally play at Prince but just for the heck of it, I will download the first save and see how much fun I have whopping the hapless AIs with that starting location.

Just within my capital city's "big plus":

                    Cow
                    Elephants
                    Marble
                    Iron
                    Gold
                    Dye

Add to that the horses, rice and bananas to the north. Also, oil and uranium showed up pretty close by later.

Pretty fricken' sweet. (Oh, and this was on Noble, Duel, Normal speed).

It may not be Spanish on a Lake(tm) but don't hold it against this start.

Emperor Difficulty(!), Pangaea, Normal Speed, Standard Settings. Isabella.

This start is not so obviously good at 4000BC although you can see it's beautifully balanced in terms of food, hammers and commerce. River runs through everything and there is oodles of forest. Explore a little and you'll find you have a lovely hospitable corner of the Pangaea, with good expansion opportunities and pleasant neighbors.

Did you build at the start site or up on the hill in the upper left?

Having a river on every side but one is always a comfort given the penalty most attackers suffer.

I hope this thread stays alive because I will be snatching the saves.

Noble Standard Pangea (10 civs to liven it up)

I was going to try out a Quechua rush...amazingly the map generating script must have read my mind.

It was nice of it to start me off so close to a neighbor to try out my Quechua's!
