  • Does worldbuilder map changes effect score

Does it effect your score if you enter the world builder and make changes to terrain.

I have from time to time made a couple of small changes to terrain at the start of the game to make my first cities use of my land more effective. I never add resources or units, just change say a tundra/desert to a plains to avoid the 25% production penalty for a city built on this square.

    Do you consider this cheating?

Does it effect my final score?

Anyone else own up to doing this?

Desert terrain effects tile improvements, such as roads, cottages, windmills, etc. It carries no penalty for building city improvements, such as granaries.

Never tried it myself, but I read that editing the map in any way will be noted.

I have discovered that if you try to change the terrain for a square with a city allready on it (captured from barbs) the city becomes invisible on the map. The new terrain sits on top of the city.

I have got to stop cheating!!

Problem is i find the game bloody hard compared to previous civs. And i hate losing!!

I have been known to change a tile or two, to save myself the hassle of remaking the map over and over and over... Although that phase has passed, I wouldnt be above doing it again if my start really blew chunks after the 2nd or 3rd map redraw.

I use the worldbuilder if I need to clean up roads that I hate, especially in conquered territory. Since I SHOULD be able to do that without it, I do not consider it cheating.

I have been known to restart 20 times until I like the starting point. After all, a game can easily take a wekk or more, if you have RL things like work. Don't wanna be stuck in a place I don't like enough.

Though, in Civ 2 I once moved my settler 40 rounds (!) over the world and then settled down and still did quite well.
