I've resigned several games before 1 AD because the rivals civs were just blazing past me with suspicious ease, leaving me easily in last place. Often on the "flat earth" or "Old World" maps where you're quickly crowded out of available territory for cities by rival civs or domesitcated barbarians, or both.
"I wake. I work. I sleep. I die. The dark of space my only sky. My life is passed, and all I've been will never touch the earth again." --The Ballad of Sky Farm 3, Anonymous, Datalinks
The quickest game I've finished was when I was playing a dual sized map as Montezuma against England. The Jaguars was the only type of units I got to use, taking one city after another one. I don't remember what year the game ended though, but the game was over very quick
Also my only conquest victory - I usually play on large maps and can't be bothered to wipe EVERY opponent city out, so it's domination/diplo/space race for me, with the rare cultural win.
In my fastest game I played Napoleon on a small pangea map, and got an EXTREMELY lucky start - my starting spot had great resources, and not only that, I quickly got animal husbandry from a goody hut, revealing horses right next to my capital... and guess what I got from another goody hut right after? Yes indeed: horseback riding!
So OF COURSE I had to build an army of horse archers, and quickly burn and pillage every opponent civilization down to the ground. I mean with a start like that, it would be practically criminal NOT to do so!
Don't remember the year it ended, but it was very fast. Bismark was the last to go, and by the time my horse archer army got to him, he'd just gotten his first charriots.
Only the most intelligent, handsome/beautiful denizens of apolyton may join the game :)
Playing Monarch Duel, I happened to move my settler over one to build my first city. Well a few goody huts later, I got Iron Working for free!!. Guess what, the spot I moved my city over was Iron!!! Rushed 12 Swordman right away and stormed the three cities the Opp had. Game over 1500bc ish.
The only thing that'll stop her as a human player vs AI is if you (she) have no horses & can't trade for them - ie bad start (machine) followed by bad planning (you) - unless you limit your victory conditions; even then you've a pretty good chance
Well, I was starting lots of maps so I could see the general layout of the game and stuff. I was alt-tabbing a lot and watching tv and doing other stuff too so one time I alt-tabbed into the game and found that screen. Man, made me go through the end game and everything, 0 finish score Dan Quayle, hehe. And whenever I get the rank Of Dan Quayle I have to say in a loud voice "I am NOT Dan Quayle"
Cathy does rock, I've been trying hard to get people to realize the power of creative and I think a good number of people love creative too. Cathy is really nice and those Cossacks are unstoppable. Only bad thing is that you don't get to talk to Cathy and make demands and have her slap you or spin around, I love that. If I play as cathy I should be able to see me dance around and slap other people, right?
My fasted games have been death by barbs, not that I make a habit of that, but it's hard to predict just how strong the barbs can get so my first forays into higher difficulties + raing barbs + foggy maps were rather... educational.
Already well on the way to a CS slingshot, the four Roman warrior units were overwhelmed by a barbarian rush in the northern wastes. They came from both directions and for about five turns, there was at least an archer or warrior from both routes. By the time they reached Rome, the Slingshot was a mere pipedream and my population were starving. The only thing they didn't destroy was a silver mine but perhaps they wanted that for their own budding empire.
Maybe they used the captured worker and continued building the Oracle. Formed the Confucian Barbarian State of Rome and dominated the world for decades.
Ive had a couple conquest victories on monarch at around 100bc-200ad.
But this was with mass praetorians at epic speed on a small pangea map. I mean how can you lose with that combination? I was working on making my choping strategy better at the time.
