  • Easy map settings....

    Hi Guys,

The problem is sometimes I just want a quick easy game on a map with minimal mountains, swamps and deserts. ie I can just have a quick, fun game without restarting because my start position is pants.

Whats the best map options to get an 'easy' map?

Inland Sea, Team Battleground, Great Plains -- these have friendly climates, limited jungle, and little or no ice.

Don't use raging barbarians, and set the game on "Settler"

Well, reds4ever, the thing is, maps that are easy for the novice players are also easy for the AI, while the AI has the most trouble on the same maps that a novice player would.

Great Plains is perhaps the most enviorment friendly. Plenty of health resources, normally lots of cows, corn, horses.

It's main draw backs are the AI knows how to function in this type of map very well and also barbs are very active on this map due to very few sea tiles.

Actually, all of the region maps except for "Inland Sea" feature very active barbs due to few water tiles.

I want easy maps, not easy settings. So no, he's not.

Easy settings give you easy maps by definition

I can just have a quick, fun game without restarting because my start position is pants.
I don't think you can have a lousy start on Settler.

I think the answer depends on what you're trying to do.

I tend to have a passive style. I never start wars or try to win through conquest.

As such, the easiest maps for me are always archipelagos. They keep the AI away from me until I've had time to prepare for their arrival.

...or maybe large world, 2 civs....;O)

Experiment with iStartingLocPercent in Civ4HandicapInfo. It's set to 10 on Settler, 40 on Noble, and goes up to 90 on Deity. I think it might have something to do with how you always tend to get excellent starts on lower difficulty levels.
