my cd got scratched

my install cd (disc 1, the one you play with) got scratched because it wasn't seated in the cd-rom tray when i pushed it in, now I can't play. does anyone have any ideas? I thought about downloading the CD, but I don't know if that would work or not, and there are so many file types available. It would take forever to download.

There are some CD "scratch removers" out there pretty cheap. I never tried one, but what do you have to lose? You might read the license...perhaps you could get the CD replaced by Take2 if you mailed your scratched one?

A final tip: Soren himself is aware that many people find ways to load the game without needing the CD. I'm not talking about stealing the game. I'm talking about owning the game but not needing the CD to avoid the exact situation you are in now. I have two little kids at home, for instance, and lo the day I forget the CD in the drive. Therefore, the CDs stay on the shelf, like it should be.

They should, as long as you have some proof of legal ownership.

If disk 1 was scratched, you're fine until you have to reinstall!

Finding 'other' ways to make the game run

This is not the place to get how-to info about it though, so your best hope is to get a replacement copy

This reminds me... I still haven't had my DVD in the drive yet

As long as you own the game it's perfectly legal for you to get no cd patches though. Or even I think to download another copy of it and install that.

AFAIK it depends on where you live, in some countries it's legal, in others it's not

Thank you everybody for the replies. I think for now I will try a no cd patch. In the meantime I will contact take2 on a replacement cd.

DAmn game is so addictive I kind of freaked out at first. thanks again!

The real question is what will you do when at one point you get forced to reinstall.

Nocd is only temporary solution for you.

There are "no CD" cracks (which are patch number specific) and then there are other more sophisticated methods using an image of the disc.

No, it's too late for that CD unless the "remove scratch" stuff actually works. I mean in case Take2 gives him a new one.
