  • Aztec diplomacy music

Is it just me, or does the music theme that plays during diplomacy with the Aztecs sound a lot like the music that played immediately before the start of a game of civ 1 (the "in the beginning" part). Perhaps a homage?

It's from the Civ 2 intro movie rather I think.
No Fighting here, this is the war room!

Oh the aztec-theme is my all-time favorite video-game tune... I whistle (my interpretation of) it ever since i played civ1... I even found my own variations... it is also used in colonization. If i'd be a musician i'd definately make my own remix kinda thing.

Speaking of remixes: If you know the good old c-64 games - they are a lot of great remixes of their tunes out there... my favorites are the remix of the 'maniac mansion' title theme by puffy64 (who, as it turned out lived in the same house as i did at the time - boy the world can seem so small... what a coincidence - i mean what are the chances !?) and the 'zak mc kracken' title theme remix by 'the dead guys' (not the 'mindbend this' version though)... - if you know those old games and like video-game music, check it out !

P.S.: That Puffy64 story is really astonishing... i downloaded his 'maniac mansion' tune, not knowing anything about who made it... then i show a roommate, telling him how ccol that is, and he is like: that guy downstairs makes stuff like that, you might wanna talk to him about this. Turns out he made that song ! I lived in a student-house back then with some 60 students so with about 6 billion people on earth i guess the chances of that happening are about 1:100.000.000 (i know this calculation is rather naive - but anyways) !

What other musics have been featured in previous Civ games? Aztec diplomacy is a remix of In the Beginning, Bismarck theme was in Civ2, Washington theme was in Colonization.

And what about other themes? Anything interesting there? I noted Napoleon themes are remixes of national anthem, Victoria has a remixed Rule Britannia.

IIRC the ancient age themes for Mao, Caesar, and Cyrus are remixed versions of music from Civ2.

Two of the Cyrus tunes are from Civilization II soundtrack and Hatshesut middle intro too. I know there are more and I wish they were regular music in Civ4, I miss them from Civ2 for their nastalgic feel. I really liked the Civ2 soundtrack.

Alexander's is from Civ3, from what I remember. Mao's theme, while first in Civ2, was also in Civ3 as well.

Mao's, Caesar's and Cyrus's themes were also in the original Civ. Ahhhh, Babylonian music....

And of course the world-creation-theme is the same as in civ1 (had to enjoy it for about 20 minutes each time i started a game on my old Commodore Amiga)- only that Mr. Spock now tells us, what we had to read ourselves back in the days.
