Good day to you all,
I've been playing Civ IV since it got out, but this is my first game on Prince. Selecting random on a large map i got Isabella and went workboat-workboat-worker-settler route.
Tech wise I went meditation (being spiritual), followed the bw route and sucessfully managed a CS slingshot while grabing the GL (and Colossus thereafter. I wanted to post the games in order, but I don't know how so I'll attach them at the end).
Soon realising that I was alone, my plan was to beeline to astronomy and use caravels(circv bonus) and galleons to get ahead and plan an invasion similar to what Velociryx suggested in another tread and time it for when Conquistadors come online. Howerver not everything whent according to plan: one of my caravels got stuck on ice so Cyrius won the circumvanting bonus. I also got sidetracked and researched guilds later rather than sooner.
My problem now is this: is it too late to pursue this game in the direction that was chosen? do I need to bifurcate? My military is almost non-existant and most of my cities have not reached a point where they can be properly exploited yet.
Here is my own overall analysis of this game:
a) The settler pumping (which was done in my capital) started much too late.
b) I probably should have build more workers instead since most of the central part of my island was covered in jungle.
c) Specialists and city specialisation: I still don't know when or how to use them properly and there always seem to be one more tile to be worked up. Even the two scientists from my first library appears to me as too a big sacrifice in terms of production and growth. (I really need help on this)
d) barbarian cities: i waited almost eternally for them to grow size 2 in the middle of the jungle because I wanted to keep them where it would have been much better to rase, spend three turn and build a settler in my opinion.
e) I got sidetracked on research, chosing the democracy route after I beelined for liberalism instead of giong for the guilds much earlier.
Here are saves of different points in the game. According to your experiences, how will you play it from this point? Would you strart differently?
What are your suggestions concerning the aspects of the game that I have problems with or things that you see could have been done better?
Regards
Robert
P.S. can you post more than one game per message?
