I have a radeon 9200 128 Mb ram with catalyst 5.13 and I have the problem with stuttering wonder movies. Does anyone here know how to shut down the Anti Aliasing on the card, not only in the game? Now I have it set to "let application decide" in the catalyst control panel and 0 in the game. With that setting everything except wonder movies works great. If I change the card setting ot any value on the AA the intro movie also starts to stutter. Ive read somewhere that people got rid of the stuttering by shutting down AA but I cant find anyway to do this.

Maybe I should try with older versions of the drivers too...

Runing Pentium 4 540J (3.20 GHz, XD bit, HT) with 2GB of DDR2 and a RX800-XL VT2D256E (PCI express x16), not seeing any problems.

Most of your problems are probably due to the CCC (Catlyist Control Center) version of the driver package. Get the 5.12 Control Panel version from here and then just get the "Display Driver Only" for the 6.1 drivers from ATI

The CCC version uses the .NET framework, which is well known to be a lousy code base. Refuse to use the CCC version and you can thank me later.

Running Pentium D 3GHz with 2GB RAM, Windows XP Pro and a Radeon X600.

Running fairly smoothly on max graphics settings.

Occasional juttery movement late game on huge maps but other than that the movies run smoothly, the game looks great, the sound is fine and the movement is fluid.

I had the same problem with the same CCC and in-game AA settings. I hunted around, found a suggested solution and it now runs perfectly. I installed the newest version of Bink Video, which is what is used to run the movies, so if it is only the movies running poorly then this may also be your problem.

RAD Game Tools' web page. RAD makes Bink Video, the Telemetry Performance Visualization System, and Oodle Data Compression - all popular video game middleware.

I'm running exactly the same card, exactly the same OS, and am having no problems whatsoever.

Just checked my Catalyst version, and it's 5.6

Just to make sure, you DO have the latest game patch installed of course?

Well, with only 128 MB of RAM it's a wonder that DragonSkye can run Win2K, let alone Civ4.

The 128 MB is the video card memory, not the computer's RAM.

                  I have X850XT

                  Cat 5.13

Win2000 sp4, all up to date

The system is AMD Nforce 4 based

and just occasional crash (perhaps 1, in two games or so) and that is often non-fatal crash, VPU recover from ATI generates crash report and I can continue the game.

Viudeos and everything else works like charm.

just to add - you can turn of AA in the control panel for all games (but I don't, I just turned it off in game). The game worked OK for me without a single patch and older drivers too.

I think this might be one requirement given that you are running out of video memory, the other one is (I assume you are running AGP based card, as you have dual Palominos) there is some AGP memory size setting in your motherboard BIOS witch you might want to check and perhaps increase, but just remember what it was, so you can return it back if it doesn't work.

                        Asus A7N8X Deluxe
                        AMD 2500XP + Barton Core
                        1GB of Ram
Windows XP Pro SP1 w/all updates
                        X850 Pro AGP w/Catalyst 6.1

Civ IV (v1.52) runs GREAT. No problems encountered.

I know you retracted this statement, but I probably should have posted more numbers. (Even though it doesn't really matter now, I'll post them).

                          Dual AMD MP Palominos 2800+

                          DirectX December 2005

I gave up trying all of the fixes on here, and other forums. I'm getting a full refund for the game. The Better Business Bureau took my complaints and I ended up actually getting through to the people at support, and there isn't anything wrong with my computer.

What's the point of contacting the BBB? Other than logging your complaint, they can't really do anything about your case.

Unlike a Mac, keep in mind that there are thousands of PC configurations, let alone thousands of different manufacturers that you can mix-and-match components with.

The developers over at Firaxis, I'm sure, are doing their best to develop products that work across all platforms and all components.

                            Just my two cents...

Actually they act as a mediator between you and the company you are filing the complaint against, and it worked because I received my refund. They rate the business poorly if the issue does not get resolved one way or the other. And yes the businesses do care about their ratings with the BBB.

You're right about the countless configurations.. However, no matter what my configuration is, I have above the recommended hardware for running the game in regards to what is posted on the box. I expect to get what I pay for, and I didn't.

If the game is running fine for you, great. But the fact remains that it didn't on my machine. I'm not going to argue over it. My problem has been resolved with the refund. As far as I'm concerned it's a closed issue now.
