  • Strange crash behaviour related to the "out of video" error

On my laptop, which has specs well above minimal requirements, I recently noticed some strange behaviour: The game crashes frequently (every 2-3 turns or so; frequently just after saving) with an "out of video memory" error, however when I unplug the power cord and leave the machine running on battery power, the game doesn't crash. At all.
The strange thing about this behavior is that my machine has a pentium M processor, and afaik running the machine on battery power should degrade the processor performance.

And it does have better performance with the power cord plugged in; scrolling, wait times etc. are considerably shorter, but crashing every 5 minutes really is not acceptable.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject? I can only think that the higher game speed leads to something going awry inside the game. Strange.

Perhaps the laptop switches to a different video/graphics mode when running off the battery (to save power).

Yes, I think it might. I only heard about it using slower processor speed, but it would only make sense that it also slows the graphics card down to save on cooling.

      Thanks for the answer
