  • Happy citizens

The previous versions of Civilization have happy citizens. They are more productive and they can cancel out the effects of the whiny ruffians. There also used to be a kind of specialist called Entertainers, and they make citizens happy.

So when did Firaxis took out happy citizens? And more importantly, why?

I'm guessing since cities cannot riot anymore that it wasn't needed. I can't recall if happy citizens were in fact more productive in previous civ games other then they would stop the city from rioting if there were an equal number or less mad citizens.

      They can't? I could've sworn...

Ah I suppose they can if they are under the influence of another Civ's culture and are about to flip. I've actually never had this happen to one of mine. But in the case of a culture riot it doesn't really matter how happy they are? Or does it?

It was done to reduce micromanagement.

Now, if you slip up and don't fiddle with worker distribution/culture slider just right, you only lose the work of one citizen.

It's the same reason that there's production overflow.
