I would like to know if it is possible to provoke the computer into declaring war with me. I have a defensive pact and the best army in the world and want to go to war, but if i start it i lose the defensive pact. I have a few of the cpus furious with me, and I was at war with a few in the past. Is there any more steps I can take to get them to take that final step and declare war?

Disband your great army and they will attack. -
Do you need the pact? If not, there is no particular reason not to end it, kill somebody, and resign it.

I would say try moving all units OUT of a city he can see. or perhaps leave it defended with 1 warrior, but I'm not sure the AIs will fall for that.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only if you are weak enough the AIs will attack. But I'm not sure they will if you have a very powerful ally either.
I'm sure you can be allowed to reload to back where you are, if you do this just to check what the AI does.
It could be interesting to learn how your ally manage this newfound military power.
-Will he defend you?
-Will he attack someone else rather than your enemy?
-Will he dispand the units due to cost?
-Will he attack you, and join the dark side?

Very recently i was in the same boat. I wanted Kubli to declare war as he was THE MOST unit powerful ai. So i wanted my american allies to absorb some of those units too. So I began an agressive campaign of "unreasonable demands". The first was demanding that 2800 gold bank acount he held. He wisely payed up and gave me a -2. The next turn i demanded the 20 gold he just made, this however he denied me (go figure) and gave me another -2. I continued this until i had a -10 from demands and he still did not make his move.... /sigh

But you got 2800 gold out of the process! The most powerful AI coughed up 2800 gold to a demand?!?! He should've told you to go pound sand.

i find if you have enough military might the ai has in my experience always given in to my money demand first off.
but the 2nd time i ask he goes no, get lost, even though the amount is way less etc.
guess it takes awhile till the ai forgets and lets you pilfer their bank balance :P
building a mighty military and using the ai's money to buy wonders using the kremlin/suffrage is fun
