  • How does it play?

Thinking about buying the game. Question: Does it play faster than the old Civs? I always loved the game, but I really don't have the time to commit to a long game anymore. And, I gotta say, never had much love for the micromanagement anyway. So yeah - worth picking up?

    Yours,

they added multiple speed choices with civ4.

a quick game can be done begining to end in 2 hours.

a marathon game can take a week.

    so yes, buy the game!~

Research quicker, build quicker, make units quicker.

You can also play a smaller map with less civs.

Games can easily finish in one evening. (Mine tend to lask at least a few days)

Heh, well I can finished a game of Alpha Centauri yesterday evening. Of course, the evening ended at 6 am.....

And sounds good. Random question, sort of related: How complicated is it to get into? It looks like the game has a ton of new stuff going on.

It is a bit different from the others, but it has a much quicker learning curve as well so you should be able to get the hang of it after the tutorial and one game or so if you've played the others.

There are all sorts of modules out, making the game better already.

The major new things are religion and civics, most other game concepts (even the Great Persons) are refinements of stuff that was in the previous ones.

Enough stuff has changed subtly, though, to make old habits of strategy no longer useful. First and foremost the "found new cities as rapidly as you possibly can" dogma is dead.
