    Grenedier: +50% attack vs Riflemen

    Does this bonus only apply when attacking, and not defensivly?

    I just attacked an enemy Grenedier with one of my riflemen, and the odds bonuses listed in game didnt seem to include the red +50% I was expecting.

    One can contrast this with units like
    Axemen: +50% vs melee units
    - this doesnt have the word 'attack' in the bonus.

    Other units that have the word attack in their bonus description are
    Cavalry/Cossack: +50% attack vs cannon
    Horse Archer/Keshik: +50% attack vs catapult
    Marine/Navy Seal: +50% attack vs machine gun/Artillery

    Yes, the Grenediers bonus is attack only. While the Axemen bonus is all the time.

      I'm pretty sure it goes both ways.

        If you look into the files, you will notice 3 (THREE) different modifiers.

        Attack, defense, and general bonus.

        So the +50 would only apply when ATTACKING, as it obviously says it does.

          The answer is "ATTACK ONLY", proofed by the file that defines the Grenadier characteristics:

          This file is in <>\Assets\XML\Units and is named CIV4UnitInfos.xml;

          For the grenadier is this text:
          <UnitClassAttackMods>
          <UnitClassAttackMod>
          <UnitClassType>UNITCLASS_RIFLEMAN</UnitClassType>
          <iUnitClassMod>50</iUnitClassMod>
          </UnitClassAttackMod>
          </UnitClassAttackMods>
          <UnitClassDefenseMods/>

          See that there is a point for "Attack Mods" and "Defense Mods"; for "Defense" there are no bonuses.
