  • Build a Bridge

How can I build a bridge? And under what circunstances?
    Thanks in advance

You can't. Not a real bridge. But you'll see little bridges in every roaded tile crossing a river... Just after Construction, IIRC. It's very cute.

But if you see the 'CONSTRUCTION' box, apart from elephant, catapult... you see 'It allows the construction of bridges'
My problem is: I have iron in an island without a city but with mine and road, but still I don't have access to it. Why?

The "allows construction of bridges" means bridges crossing rivers. Speeds up units crossing rivers, if I understand correctly.

There's no option in the game to build briges to span across water squares. Such an option would be great though, and it was suggested in another thread here for the expansion... I hope we'll see that.

As to why you don't have access to your iron, I believe you would need to have the road connected all the way to your city - and if it's on a separate island, then I'm afraid you're out of luck.

You cannot build a bridge over any tile of water.

If you want the iron from an island, you'll need to build a city on that island, and then connect your mined iron the city via a road. Then, if you have the right techs, it can automatically send that back to your mainland via a trade network (ie, a combination of coast, cities, roads, and rivers back to your capital). Then, you'll have iron.

Yep, resources that are on tiny islands too close to another city or tucked behind mountains are particularly annoying.

The worst has one time when I had to look at a horse on one hex behind a mountain right near one of my cities. To make matters worse, a barbarian axeman was stuck on that tile, meaning that I was getting a stupid "enemy spotted" message every single turn!! Finally I got fed up with the message and seaborne invaded the stupid axeman. It cost me a couple of units but it was worth it to get rid of that bugger!

Units have a penalty crossing the river. 1/3 mp? 2/3 mp?
              This ends after Construction.

It's not so much a movement penalty applied, as much as the two squares are considered unroaded in relation to each other.
