  • Missionaries

New CIV player, but longtime fan of the series and offshoots.

I love the religion, and founded all but two of them. I did not go wild with the missionaries, though, so most of my cities had only one or two of my founding religions.

Now my problem is that I went to Free Religion early, and I want to build and send missionaries from all of my religions to all my cities. However, I seem to have missed building the needed structure to make missionaries under Free Religion (all but one, Jewish).

Which structure is needed to build missionaries? Was it a wonder? Do I need to go back to Organized Religion, build something, then go back to Free Religion, and start sending out the missionaries?

Thanks for your help in advance.

You need a monastery to recruit missionaries. These are available under free religion also.

Once you have researched Scientific Method, however, you will be unable to build Monasteries, at which point you would have to switch to Organized Religion to build Missionaries.

You can build the Monastery after you discover the Meditation tech.

Actually they are not. You HAVE to either be under Org. Religion OR have a monastery. Luckilly, I'm of the camp that loads up on as many religions as possible in as many cities as possible before researching scientific method. With five monasteries in a town that's a 50% tech boost until Scientific Method, and a guaranteed source of religions after you adopt free religion.
