        The "issue" with Conquistadors is they have no counters that cost less shields, as such they actually have no counters (well, except elephants). But they do have equal shield cost counters - Knights. Aggressive Pikemen and Musketmen also do tolerably against them. The main thing that makes them a royal nuisance is that they recieve defensive bonuses - it's absurdly hard to remove a unit which effectively has 20 defense (conq fortified on a forest hill), there is nothing even remotely cost effective that you can throw at it, you'll be lucky to get even 10% odds with the best unit available in the era. Other units of the era can be nearly as hard to dislodge, but the conq is also highly mobile. They are however one of the most restrictive UU's, requiring both horses and iron, and this is with a civ not terribly well suited for earlier conquest to acquire the resources. Thinking about it, I can't think of any other UU that is as hard to build.

          Don't normal knights also require horses and iron though? I never have trouble getting the iron (Or if I can't I'm invaded), but horses have always been rare to me.
