  • A Running Log For Firaxis

i have done everything short of re-format forthis game to work, so i have decided, that as a last ditch effort to get some firaxis help, i will do the following. i have had 22 freezes, CTDS, Crashes, And Auto-reboots without viruses or spyware while playing the game. so, from now till whenever, i will use this post, through replies, to keep a running record of how many crashes vs. games played i have.

AZ TIME: 1033 pm, i will now try out the game again, ill bet its a crash!

I too kept having CTDs and Freezes, until I reduced the Graphics level in the Options Menu to "LOW", surprisingly it did not really take away from the game too much in appearance. Also, to play on the larger maps I had to break down and buy more memory. I started with 1 GByte, and took it to 1.5 GByte, which enabled me to load "Huge" maps. I still don't know if I will suffer any game slowdowns however, but if I do, I'll probably go ahead and top it out to 2 GBytes.

If you can't afford the memory, then at least the "Low" graphic setting should let you play on relatively smaller maps.

I'm assuming you have downloaded and installed the 1.52 patch.

The game seems to have some memory leaks still, so the more memory you have, the longer you can play until CTDs. If you are trying to play with 512 MBytes or less, good luck if you don't exit and restart very often.

One other thing which happened to me a while back, was believe it or not, a faulty memory module. That combined with a memory leak can really drive you nuts.

I forget what game it was, but I swore the game was junk, until I finally started swapping memory modules around and found one, that when I placed it in my first slot, literally kept the machine from booting up.

i have now made it past the middle ages twice, having only one freeze past the middle ages. all the bizzare red monitor of death stuff and the super-auto-reboot-catastrophy seem to have stopped once they occur 4 or 5 times a game in the middleages. OR SO I THOUGHT....
well, i had a TOTAL SYSTEM FAILURE by memory dump, everything shut downciv shut down and i thought it was the end of it, but then my comp just shut down, no restart this time. first time for this type of error. anyway, this sucks, i have v1.5 or whatever, but if version 2. something comes out on the next patch, and i crash again....

well, lets just say, ill take all the time i would have spent playing the game tryin to get firaxis to repay me for the game, and buy me a civ3gold so i can have something to do.

i have tried as much as 15years of total immersion to computers has taught me, virtual memmory included. anyway, there has only been 2 confirmed and 4 or 5 suspected memmory related issues of the 22+ crashes ive had now, but im sure im of by about 3 or 4 via underestimation. anyway again, here is a game that doesnt have (as many) glitches as civ4...

Yeah, one of the non-Civ4 things you should know before you rush straight into the forum are who you can expect to be friendly with, and who you must accept as rival, enemy or neutral.
In your case, using AOLese will get you the other AOLers (there are some around) as your ally, but put me as your enemy.

In my case, being an openly disrespectful, egotistical, megalomaniac, I make allies with those who aren't idiots and who aren't serious about other's feelings (online) and make enemies out of everyone else.
