I'd get medieval on his arse if I were you Sava. Or renaissance if you've advanced that far

Meh. Its a good game, but is it a game of the year?

Mind you, its been a pretty poor year.

                  I think so.

And I'm not just a Civ fan.

I play tons of other games. Mainly FPS and sports games, but I also like RTS...

The other games IGN gave awards to were not that great.

                  FEAR?

                  meh...

that game was not that great... single player was okay, but no replay value...

BF2 is a better game than that...

Civ4 is definitely the best game this year... and quite frankly, one of the best games in a while to come out...

and when all is said and done, I think Civ4 will end up being one of the great games of all time... but that's just my opinion. Very rarely do games suck me in and occupy my time the way Civ4 has.

Seeing as how the 3 biggest online gaming sites (Gamespot, IGN, Gamespy) have named Civ4 PC Game of the Year, yeah, I'd say so .

Yeah, 2005 was a slow year for games. The only real competition, World of Warcraft, shoots itself in the foot repeatedly by having a fanbase full of kiddies and idiots.

And the fact that WoW was 2004.

Realistically, the other candidates were Battlefield 2 and FEAR. Both received very good reviews and generally a good critical response. AoE3 turned out to disappoint - the reviews are also not nearly as good as you would expect of an AoE game, mostly in the 8.2 - 8.5 range. The year was very quiet as far as RPG games go, and nothing extra unusual in the other genres was released, either, like Sims 2 or San Andreas were.

Then again, after 2004, I'm glad that we had a quiet year and games that actually try to use all the innovation from 2004 . And, I still had my fair share of fun releases this year. Other than Civ4, of course, there was the Doom3 expansion, SWAT4, Quake4, some stuff to play. Next year... Oblivion, woo hoo! If it lives up to the expectations, it will be an instant classic.
