  • ending open borders and other treaties

Ok when you sign an open border treaty I understand it lasts for at least ten years unless you declare war. Question is how exactly do you know when these ten years are up? Does it tell you, or do you have to look? Trying to end an open border treaty with the mongels but though it seems like it should have been ten years currently it doesn't look like it is, in that I can't seem to end it. Is their an option to end the treaty after the ten years are up how does this look on the diplomatic screen? Thanks!

You have to count to 10.
This is not easy, and presents a great challenge to most gamers - but shouldn't be a problem for the people of apolyton.

I think you're thinking of a peace treaty after you were at war with someone. Open borders never expires unless you cancel it. To cancel any deal you have to go under Diplomacy(F4) and then select the current deals tab and then click on the treaty you want to cancel(a confirmation box will pop up first)

You don't really need to cancel open borders to attack someone, just say hi and choose "let's talk about something else" and tell them about how nice their head would look on a pole. Or just hold down alt and click on their name on the lower right corner of the screen, that'll declare war too.

Now 10 turn enforced peace treaty, there's no way to keep track of that except by counting like EN said, but if you lose track, you can hover on their name in the lower right corner of the screen and if it still says "cannot declare war" then wait a few more turns then check again.

Doesn't the diplomacy 'Current Deals' tab shows how many turns are left on a deal. I think ceasefires are included here.

Actually the game does tell you when the 10 turns cease fires or peace treaties have expired. You get a game message about it. Of course, those often lag quite a bit, so you might not see it until several turnsl ater.

However, when you hover your mouse over the AI name at the bottom right of the screen, it will say "Can't declare war!" in red while the treaty is still active. That's a definite hint, I think
