  • When the editor ?

I am still waiting to buy CIV IV until an editor will be released, I still can't imagine to deal with helos not able to cross mountains etc...

Do you perhaps have any news about the release of an unofficial or official editor ?

    Thanks and to everyone

    Gunter

P.S. : I am glad to see 152 is out, how do you rate it ?

Gunter, you mean map editor or the SDK? There is a map editor in the game (called World Builder) and another one available here

I doubt very much if we'll see a GUI based editor like Civ 3 had, everything now is done with text files. Kind of like Civ 2 actually, though more indepth. If you poke your nose in the XML files that come with the game, I'm sure you'll be able to find a way of getting what you want out of a helo.

As for 1.52, it's not the final answer yet. I'm having problems towards the Industrial era at any rate. There's going to be at least one other patch soon to fix more of the performance issues. But it did improve my game from 1.09 somewhat, and there's some new features that are quite nice. Out of 10, I'd rate it at 6.5.

Does anyone know if it is possible to modify the basic railroad movement allowance?

According to Firaxis, everything is going to be moddable so I'm guessing yes. I haven't had a chance to look at the modding aspects yet, since I've been to busy playing, but it's in one of the XML files somewhere.

You're going to make railroads move anyone anywhere in one turn, aren't you?
I'd love to see that modded in.

I know of at least two changes (mods) I'd like to see. The first would be to replace the American UU Seal Unit with an Air power unit similar to Civ3, because let's face it, we are known primarily for our airpower, not seal units, and since the American UU comes so late in the game, it can be justified to be a corresponingly stronger air unit.

The second would be the addition of a modern attack sub, "not a boomer". The game has early/modern bombers, and early/modern fighters, but sadly has only a single World War I era submarine. This might necessitate a balancing set of modern surface naval combat units to play balance it however.

UUs: I don’t mind the American Seal unit coming so late in the game. I find UUs are more of a bonus, and my strategy doesn’t heavily rely on them as did the previous version of Civ. In Civ 3 I practically built my games around them.

Editor: I’d like to see a Civ 3 style editor. I hope its possible. I can imagine there are many like me who want to tweak certain aspects of the game, but find the idea of digging through XML files to be unappetizing. I was able to go in and make the very simple change of making the Huge Map a little larger, but that’s because I hang around places like this and absorb things through osmosis. The average Civer who doesn’t, may find it all a bit intimidating.

They need a better World Editor, where you can not only make the World, you can also select what Civs are playing, what the climate's like, set the world size, and custom options.
