  • Set Up Screen

    Is there a way to check the game SET UP settings? I do not think there is.

    I can list a few, but there are many reasons that this should be able to be viewed by all players.

    When I setup, I email the SETUP screen to my opponent (Cut and Paste into Word). That way I do not have an unfair advantage in knowing:

    1) the type of map;
    2) any custom settings (no barbs or aggressive barbs, etc.., );
    3) I think it is possible to set you as settler and your opponent as Noble.., not sure.

    Bottom line, any ONE of these three facts not being revealed to your opponent gives the person setting it up an advantage. In the case of #2, it could be a HUGE advantage. Now combine all three and as you can see, the person setting it up has a massive advantage.

    Unless I am missing something, I think the game settings should be able to be viewed by all players in the next patch.

    Thanks

    addendum

    To head-off any responses to this thread such as "I want to keep my Civ identity secret." No problem, just block the Civilization and Leader's identity out of the SETUP information that is disclosed to all.

    ALL other SETUP information should be available to all players at all times.

    Thanks

      it is my understanding that everyone could see what was currently selected on the setup tabs, but only the host could change them. i've hosted every game i've played since just after the game came out, though, so i'm not certain.

      then again, i only have teammates, not opponents, so it's less of an issue for me...
      it's just my opinion. can you dig it?

        Hi,

        Sorry. I intended this thread for PBEM.

        Thanks

          Test it out. Start a PBEM with Human Bismarck in the 2nd spot, and e-mail it to me at NOSPAMsob55@NOSPAMuow.edu.auNOSPAM
          Don't send me the set-up screen, I'll see what information the game lets me find out.

            ? Enigma, I do not understand why you are asking me to do that?

            I think I also do not understand your email code. Do I remove all the references to NOSPAM? Yes, I do.., okay.

            Anyway, I do not understand your response. You want me to set up a game and send to you.

              ... Okay, I'll rephrase.
              Anyone with a sufficiently powerful brain to grasp the concept of setting up a PBEM that includes both the host and myself, please do so and send the PBEM to me when it is my turn.

              You don't have the attitude needed to play Civ 4.
              It's obvious that, to test whether a PBEM opponent can see the game settings if they're not the host, you need to make a PBEM where your opponent isn't the host.
              I propose this because you're looking for information. You don't have the mental agility to grasp that you can actually discover things on your own instead of being spoon fed,
              so your primitive brain gets confused when god forbid, circumstances encourage you to actually USE it.
              Well, here's news. I won't think for you. I'll call you a n00b who doesn't deserve to be on Apolyton if you can't understand things, because that's what a Strategy game is about.

                lol... University of Wollongong... Why don't you have your Australian flag showing? I like to know how many other Australians are on this site.

                      Does anyone have any knowledge of finding out the parameters of the SETUP screen sent once a PBEM match has started?

                      Thanks in advance.

                        Can't you just hit F8 and click on the 'Settings' tab? I've never tried PBEM, but in normal SP and MP games, it works fine.

                            You'd need more exclamation points than that to count to a million.
