Yes, but these improvements are not as effective as they could be, should they be considered when the project started. The fact that 1.09+mem_fix works better than 1.52 only proves that...

P.S: I don't strike against Firaxis. They made a job I wasn't expecting them to do. Implementing what I've done isn't much easier with original source code since GameBryo operates at a slightly higher level of graphics primitives. It is a remarkable upgrade!

Sorry, but whether 1.09 + your fix is better than 1.52 is up to debate. There's a lot of people for whom performance has improved significantly in 1.52, at least as good as with your fix, and it's also stable.

I have somehow been very lucky, though. 1.09 was stable for me, and had acceptable performance. I could play Large maps fairly well, and it only slowed somewhat in the late game. With 1.52 I can play even late game Large maps while having some applications open in the background and alt-tabbing constantly. And neither official version has crashed for me. I guess I really am lucky!

I know that there are systems where they are equal (usually these are systems where 1.09 was ok on itself), but I didn't see a system up till today which would perform better with 1.52

Except movies problem which is so-so solved in 1.52, and it's definitely a problem if that's the only problem one had...

Hmmm, not entirely. It started slowing down on me getting into the medieval era but after a reboot it was working fine again. So there's still some leaking going on I'm guessing.

Well Civ 4 with patch 1.52 works a bit better when I actually decrease the AGP aperture size to 64MB. I was able to play for about 20 minutes instead of 5~10 minutes before the game freezes.

                  All
                  About decreasing AGP aperture size:

                  1) It will make things even slower with 64Mb video cards
                  2) It increased CTDs probability at least with 1.09
                  3) It has a huge impact on other games.
                  4) This probably makes it better only for AGP 4x systems (not sure).

Yeah, the game is slower, but at least it doesn't freeze that often.
