I just jumped up to Emperor, and based on 4 aborted starts, it's pretty clear that the very early game requires a much different starting strategy than Monarch as the AI and barbarians seem much more aggressive.
For those of you who have got a good handle on Emperor, do you beeline early for Archers/Axemen and turtle a bit pursuing a slow early game expansion?
