  • Installed 1.52 patch and still crap!!

Good luck to everyone who has no problems with Civ4, but...I just installed the latest 1.52 patch and it's still a piece of crap.

    mode on.

After a while the diplomacy screen disappears for minutes on end. Sometimes the only thing I can see is the terrain, sometimes it's just black with a spinning mouse pointer. It's reset my desktop on game exit to 640x480 4bit colour again.

This was on a large map game and at about 1500AD.

    My system is:
    Pentium4 3.2Ghz cpu.
    1GB of ram.
256MB Nvidia graphics card with latest drivers with all required directx support.
The correct version of Directx installed.
I've sacrificed the pig and danced naked around the oak tree at midnight while chanting to the pagan gods (none of the current bunch of gods wanted to help so I ditched them).

This software is a POS. I'm deciding whether to simply delete it and writeoff the money wasted on it or should I wait for the next patch?

    mode off.

Seriously folks. This patch doesn't help. I'm going back to v1.09 with Harkonnens patch.

I may go you one better and go back to v1.0 right out of the box. The first patch blew and the second is only slightly better, I think Firaxis needs to fire some programers.

Well, it helped me some, but its not "done" yet.
I installed the new patch the other day and played a huge map to about 1920 something. crash to BSOD error 8E, win32.sys?
there were some hangs when loading various diplomats. by "hangs" I mean it would take about 60 seconds for the leader to appear. no "white eyes" any more, so that much looks a little better.
Then I started getting the render problem that happened before. as you're scrolling through and moving units, the POV zips around the map from one unit to the next. Then on one unit, when the map panned to it, all the terrain features disappeared - the cities, forests, road/railroads, etc gone. all that was left was the basic ground texture and the oceans/seas.
Cautiously, I saved the game and exited to desktop. my save game was about 589kb. When I attempted to restart the game, I got a render error and could not get to the main menu.
Shut down my system, and restarted. Started the game back up, and was able to play a little longer. the texture problem came back up a couple times, but this time I decided to play through them, and keep going.
several turns later I got the crash to BSOD.

Its worth noting that I never would have gotten that far on a huge map on an earlier build, so they're headed in the right direction, but the fact that it crashed to a BSOD tells me that there is still at least one problem that needs working on.

      my specs:
Athlon 2800+, 1GB RAM, SB Live! Gamer, Nvidia GF4200 Ti, all the proper updates.

I encourage Firaxis to keep up the good work - the patch has made it much better. Its a shame the game couldn't have been released in a much more finished form than it was.

Game runs better in general for me. No hang ups, but it crashes constantly. Sometimes CTD, sometimes total reboot. I have set it to the lowest settings, latest drivers, no background programs, etc, etc.

In the late game I have to save several times a turn because the game rarely makes it through a turn without dropping me to the desktop.

        AMD 3400+ A64 XP
        1 Gig ram
        GeForce5500FX
        256 MB Video Ram
        Windows XP with all updates

Also My PC now drops to desk top on other games too. From Far Cry to Fall Out my PC now CTD on any game I run. I have to wonder if all the reboots from CIV IV didn't fry one of my RAM sticks or my vid card. Before I had no problems running Far Cry, Doom3, Counter-Strike Source or any of the games I usually play.

Allow me to share with you all my problem.

Installed patch 1.52 and I have lost my in game interface screen. Ctrl-I or Alt-I does not bring back my missing interface screen.

Nice job Firaxis. Anybody else have this problem?
