GTA: San Andreas and Halo 2 were both good console games. Not sure whether they were released this year, though.

GTA was a PC game... why would anyone play such a game on a stupid console?

Probably due to the lack of multiplayer component.

Why would lack of MP has anything to say about this? The only difference between the console and PC is that the graphics are s*** on the console, and the controls on the console are even worse

Consoles have always been a haven for those who couldn't be bothered tweaking their machine, or buying a decent modem/connection. While Consoles these days do have internet connections, they are typically full of single-player games (with some notable exceptions), and the PC has been the typical MP market.

As for graphics on consoles being crap: Yep. But people still buy a game with crappy graphics.
