    ... Game of the year?
How the smelt did Civ 4 beat Call of Duty 2? Rigged.

One gave 6 hours of entertainment, the other countless.

This space is empty... or is it?

I read that CoD 2 was a very cool and attractive game but also very shallow. That's probably how eh?

CoD2 received Best FPS but frankly, F.E.A.R. should have won.

I own The Movies, so I know how good the music was -- Civ 4 wasn't far behind.

Yeah, I have no idea how any FPS beat F.E.A.R. this year. It was a year of great FPSs and still one was far better than the rest.

I still want System Shock III, dammit.

Now I love Civ4 as much as everyone else, but PC GOTY? I dunno, BF2, F.E.A.R., those were awesome.

I think World of Warcraft kinda got screwed on the GOTY honors, I mean it did come out in late Nov '04, but it took about a month for it to be stable and playable and really, people were playing WoW during '05, not much during '04(I only know this because I was playing during '04 and servers were empty)

Grats to Civ4 and its makers, good job on a fine game, now how about we start making SMAC2? *gives a gentle push to the developers*

It's often a case of "game that came out close to the awards wins over game that came out farther away". Civ IV was not, imo, the best game of the year. But if you compare it to games months back, they've tended to fade from memory. Civ IV, being fresh, stands out more.

To me, Game of the Year is addiction -- and Civ 4 is the most addictive (and I don't play it, but WoW is a close second.)

                      Incidentally, WoW got Honorable Mention.

Good news! I'd never thought Civ4 would win the game of the year award though, that was a nice surprise.

I haven't played F.E.A.R. I prefer games with a multiplayer component so I get more return on my investment.

I think Grim Fandango is one of the best games ever made. And the original Civilization was strictly single player.
