What's the technical difference in play speed

what the subj says... i'm curious of what the real numbers difference is between the game speeds.

and please don't quote the manual. i know that "some stuff is faster" or whatever, but what is it that is faster and by how much? are the turns more spaced out? more/fewer hammers required for stuff?

the only real change is the amount of time you have to move your units around. on epic, everything is scaled up by 50%... tech costs, production costs, contruction time for workers, culture needed for border expansion... everything. so everything takes proportionately longer, and you have more turned to move units around and conduct wars

there's got to be more to it than that. . .

i mean, 1 quick turn is 50 years first turn, and each tech is single digit turns to produce, and settler = 12 turns. on 3 epic, all the costs seem doubled, but it's only 40 yrs for the first turn... but settler = 38 turns, meditation is typically 15 or 16 turns . . .

the biggest problem i have is wrapping my head around typically being behind real world on techs. most of the time its like 1800 for gunpowder or 1900 for steam power on quick game noble.

i can't IMAGINE how behind i'd be taking 2-3x as long to develop on epic.

no, that's exactly what it is. something that costs 100 hammers on normal costs 150 hammers on epic. the years per turn don't fit an exact pattern, because they want to keep them to nice round numbers, but the number of turns per game is also increased by 50%
