  • Ozzy's Tree Chopping Grid

I didn't see this information anywhere else, so I'm starting a new thread for it.

The amount of hammers you earn from chopping a forest decrease the further the forest square is from your city. Cultural borders have no effect, its based on the city square. The following grid shows the number of hammers for each forest square positioned around your capitol. 8 squares out is the maximum distance you can still get hammers from a forest chop.

Production modifiers apply to forest chop values. For instance a city with a Heroic Epic will earn twice as many hammers from a forest chop when building a unit then otherwise. Leader trait bonuses modify the values as well. Whether you are playing epic, normal, or quick affects the values, and charts for each speed are posted below.

Base terrain does not change the forest value. Thus forest on a grassland, hill, plain, etc all gives the same number of hammers depending on distance.

        Nice!

This makes me think of a cool mod for Civ. What if when a worker completes a chop you get a pop-up that says:

"Worker has completed a chopping down a forest. Where would you like to send the lumber?"
37 hammers to Cologne (Spearmam) [closest city]
44 hammers to Berlim (Pyramids) [green distance, but Industrious & Stone available]
22 hammers to Munich (Settler) [green distance, no modifers]

It would list all the cities within the purple circle, what they were building, and how many hammers it would generate (all modifiers included).

          Nicely done, Ozzy!

Now, here's a question I've been wondering for a while now: do the health bonus forests have to be within the workable tiles of the city? Or do the corner tiles count? Or what about ones inside a city's culture boundaries?

To count they have to be inside the workable radius (dont need to be working it though), and more than one city can get the health benefit from one forest tile.

I thought it was based on cultural boundaries. But I never tested much.

Nice to know how it works!

So, the black-shaded corners are a no for health bonus? WOO!

                            *bump*

After 1.61 the chop is nerfed I read.
I have also read that it now matters whether it's inside or outside the fat cross, and whether it's inside or outside the cultural borders.
The tech Mathematics puts the #hammers back to pre 1.61, but that is only in the fat cross, no?

Are there more exact numbers available?
Ozzy's chart was nice, but no longer correct
