Where's Nimoy??

Hello everyone. Maybe someone has experienced this problem:

I turned off all audio when I was playing the game one time (perhaps the second time I loaded it after purchase). Then, when I put the sound back on, it didn't play Nimoy's dulcet voice.

I know it's dorky, but I like when he reads quotes and starts games with: "In the beginning..."

Has anyone had this problem and if so, do we know how to fix it??

Doublecheck your civ4config file in the game folder. Sometimes the game changes your settings without you telling it to. Audio and ingame movies must be enabled to hear his tech advance quotes. Music must be enabled to hear the intro slideshow.

Thanks. Ill give that a shot. Now that I think about it, I tinkered with the cheat code. Maybe something happened.

I wish more people would include some text from the crashes that they are having. I keep getting "Trying to access 0x0000something but memory is out of bounds." errors from a little windows message box. It happens usually just from scrolling around the map. I am using a huge map, with all the graphics options turned way up, and everything was just fine until the very late game. This system has 1GB of RAM, and I tried the fixed page file size trick, and it still crashes. I can't play for more than 15 minutes in this late game situation, but I'm just so close to winning the game.

I got one other error that might be related, when I tried to save the game. It came up with a CivIV error window (not Windows window), and said something to the effect of "Error, file space does not exist, error at line XXX of AdvCivsomething.cpp." Wish I could remember the name of the cpp file, 'cus then maybe Firaxis could fix it and send me the update lickety split.

Either way, I was getting neither of these errors before I applied the patch to the game. I'm about to try a reinstall and not apply the patch to see if I can get in the necessary 1 hour to completely win this puppy. Any ideas are welcome. I've already tried everything in this guide (defragged and error checked my drive last night took forever...had to watch Catch-22 the movie, which was definitely not even close to as good as the book!).
