Does anyone enjoy playing single civ continents? What I mean is something like "6" custom continents with 6 civs, each on their own continent. I like playing these alot and was wondering if anyone had some tips or strategies for this type of play. Playing on a huge globe, I've noticed that trade and modern resource hunting are important.

I like this idea too. I recently started a custom continents game with 5 civs on 6 continents, thereby guaranteeing (sp) at least 1 continent that was totally up for grabs! fun fun!!
I wonder, though, if having 6 cont. and 6 civs guarantees a cont. per civ.
Not knowing how the game places civs, isn't it possible to have 2 civs on the same cont. even with 6 and 6? (which is why i did 6 and 5)While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

I often like this style too It's nice to slowly build up your kingdom and then, suddenly, out of the morning fog comes your ships loaded with an army made for conquering ready to build your empire
(Didn't know you could tune that much with islands, thanks!)

Ah, a Gen 2-er.
What's best is playing pangea on small, Monarch with 15 AIs. Now that's some serious Civ4

Call me crazy, but I'm usually upset and end the game if I realize that I'm the only person on the continent. I think there are issues in terms of trade here. Also, you'll be a religious leper, because by the time you make contact with other civs they'll likely already have another religion and it'll take a while for you to convert them all. I'm not saying that I'm a Pangaea player, but I am really partial to Continents. You usually don't have to worry about a stack of enemy units showing up at your door if you can convert them to your religion. Also, I usually like to take a George W Bush-style pre-emptive approach with my heathen neighbors!
Let's just say, once I've discovered Iron... it's game over for some poor civ!"Let your plans be dark and as impenetratable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt." - Sun Tzu

I agree, while it's fun to be able to build up an empire before facing the world, it does severely impede trade, religion and certain other aspects of the game. I prefer just playing a slightly larger map so you still have time to build somewhat of an empire whilst still being able to easily contact other players."You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.

My experience has been that when I'm on an island with other civs they attack me 50% of the time for some not very good reasons. Then I have to switch production from wonders and other cool useful stuff to disposable military units that are a waste of time in the long run. The game just makes me feel like, if you make war, "unless for a strategic resource" you are most often wasting your time and resources.
