  • Units on Strike?

I've recently jumped from Noble to Prince and after playing through the first 50 turns or so, my units go on strike. When this happens, my income drops into the red and science goes down to 0. I can see no reason as to why this is happening. Can somebody help?

your units are on strike because they're not getting paid, as your income was already into the red, and it cannot go below 0. the computer automatically decreases culture and science slider when you run out of money. try setting your core cities to "produce gold" priority, if you can't increase your income, by the 2nd turn after the strike, your units will start being trashed, as you're no longer able to maintain them
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

The ammount of 'free' units you get decreases as you go up in difficulty, at least according to the manual. So for instance 20 units may not cost you anything on warlord level but on monarch it may cost you 20 gold a turn for them. I'm just making up those numbers though I don't know what they actually are just that support costs go up as you increase the difficulty. Thats why you probably havn't ran into this until now.

Also remember that now the costs of maintaining cities are different from before. If you expand too rapidly you're toast.

But if you don't expand enough, you're still toast!
/me finds it odd that Organised is better for expansion than Expansive or Agressive

If you want to place a new city a bit far away from you capital, make sure you have enough income first as this will increase the maintenance cost in all of your cities. It is possible to recover if you're gone bankrupt by building grocers, courthouses, banks etc. Try also to make your cities work on tiles that provide extra commerce.

That units go on strike before they leave you, was new to me. Nice feature

As soon as somebody figured it out, it tends to spread across the forums and lots of people know.
