  • The Internet

How does it work? I've only twice built it now, and the first time I got several technologies from it, as expected.

In my current game there's only one rival left, and he has several technologies I don't have. I just completed the internet... but ... nothing.

    Did I miss something?

    AFAIK
you only get those techs which are already known to 2 AI-Civs (just like with the great library)

So if there´s only one other AI civ left in the game, the internet ifs useless for you
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

I thought you got all the techs of up to two other civs? That's what it says, right?

"Grants all Technologies aquired by any 2 Known Civilizations"

Afaik the Great Library worked the same.

If only one rival was left when you built the Internet, there can no longer be two others sharing a tech you lack, right?

Yes Solo. I do not find the Internet very useful as it comes too late. I have done a late beeline to it but I think not obsoleting the Kremlin outweighs the meager Internet benefits.

I've found it indispensible in a few OCC games for picking up a dozen or more techs I have bypaassed on the beeline to Fiber Optics. This is at Emperor and above, though, where fast AI research let's me accumulate all the remaining techs much more quickly than by researching myself.

does the internet work for future tech?

So basicly the description is just wrong.

That sucks. That sucks a lot.

You guys are saying the Great Library worked the same? I must have built it hundreds of times, but I never noticed. Of course I was usually quite far ahead in the tech race, so I never got many technologies from it in the first place.

                  From my Civ4 manual:

The Internet: Grants all technologies acquired by any 2 known civilizations.
Participating in my threads is mandatory. Those who do not do so will be forced, in their next game, to play a power directly between Catherine and Montezuma.

No. The description is quite right. You even quoted the correct description.

What is wrong is your understanding of the description. I'll assume it is a language barrier.

They mean the Great Library as it was in Civ3 There you got techs known by any two known civs

So is there a way of unambiguously distinguishing between:
"Grants (all Technologies) aquired by (any 2 Known Civilizations)"
                        And
"Grants all (Technologies aquired by any 2 Known Civilizations)"

I believe that the second meaning is the one intended in the game, but the statment could clearly have either meaning.

Maybe i'm slow and i don't understand your use of ( ), but for me both have the same meaning.

It's just like Civ3 with the Great Library. If Gandhi is the only one who has Feudalism, your not going to get it until he sells it to Caesar.

So, if you and Gandhi are the only one in the game, your getting the tech for free at the moment where you buy it from him

What they should have said is:

"Grants all Technologies shared by any 2 Known Civilizations"

But this is easily inferred, since it would be nutty just to have to know two other civs in order to be given all their technologies.
