  • Culture thwarts Seaborne invasion?

I just started a war with Egypt, it was their fault honest

I take the city they so rudely planted on my continent

Then my happy Horsican army heads for the tris waiting to transport them to the next island

But my tri won't cross the cultural border

Any work around for this anomaly?

I mean fellas, we're invading here, we don't respect their culture

Are you trying to move your galley into an enemy culturaly controlled ocean space?

Galleys can only move to ocean squares if they are in friendly cultural borders. thats the only thing I can think of

Do you have caravels/astronomy yet? that might help. Galleys can't move to ocean squares.

It can help out on some lucky archipelago or continents map, but it doesn't happen often enough to base a strategy around it in my opinion.

Of course caravels don´t help carrying troops over the ocean (they can´t carry offensiver units).
But as you refer to astronomy, I suspect that you mean galleons (as caravels can be build with optics and galleons with astronomy)

I was playing yesterday and my galley got 'stuck' in the hostile territory - I was able to move it in, but when I later wanted to move it out, it couldn't find a way. The AI could still send galleys at me, though.

AH, if you had declared war on the civ whose border was preventing your transit, that would have worked (or made you lose the game quicker).

nope, I declared war and already had taken a city.

Being at war with a civ allows galleys to transit their territory, just as open borders.

YOU WERE OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO ENTER A NON-COASTAL TILE. Galleys cannot do that ...
[EDIT] unless within cultural borders. I thought borders you are at war with counted, but it may be Open Borders only.

open borders only , not enemy borders....

no open borders, no open sea, its a cultural boundary, my tris were happily crossing before, i.e. before war broke out.
