  • Pushing culture borders more than 2 spaces into the ocean

I want to change the game so that cultural borders can go more than two spaces into the ocean. Currently, no matter how big your cultural borders are they don't go more than two spaces into the ocean. However, I haven't been able to find any python file that has the information about cultural border expansion in it. Does anyone know which file contains this information?

You should probably ask this in Creation & Files.

I did not realize they could not extend more than 2 squares. one game I was trying to secure an iron resource on a 2 square island. I kept building culture improvements to try to envelop the island. In the end I had to put a useless city on the island to get the iron.

Even if your cultural borders had extended to the iron resource
it would have been necessary for you to build this city.

Resources have to be connected to your trade network to get collected and, as several people have found out, a road on a coast tile doesn´t function as harbor, i.e. your island wouldn´t have been connected to your trade network.
Looks like only cities give you the harbors to connect the trade network of one isle/continent to the other.

enemy cities do the trick though.

I had a resource on another island which worked for me, even though I had no city there. It had a road to another city though.

Enemy cities or cities that are not your own?

I would think it could be any path that a trade route could follow, which would be through cities not your own, as long as they aren't closed to trade (like with Mercantilism).
