  • Submit your crash reports!

If your Civ4 crashes, be sure to submit the crash report to Microsoft. Firaxians are going to get those reports, and it will help them catch problems better.

Also, if you can reproduce a particular crash, do so and also send a report to MS.

    Thanks!

When Civ 4 crashes on my machine Windows never generate a report.

That would be exactly why crash reports submitted to MS are helpful .

Not all crashes prompts for reports, but those which does should be reported as often as possible. This info eventually makes its way to Firaxis.

Doing so- the only crashes I've had seem to have to come when anti-virus/spyware programs have tried to dial up for updates in the background

I would love to submit my crash report. Is there a way to do this when my computer completely freezes while running CIV4?

When my game crashed last night, it try to send a report but after several min the report would not send, so I rebooted and play EE 2.
After most crashes, my computer goes to 600 by 800 and 4 bit color. I have to reboot to restore to normal. I did have one freeze 2 day ago. Had to reboot from the Freeze.

I Notice this, if I scroll to much, the computer will crash.

                            The problem is obvious.

                            New game, everything is fine.

Big, old game, things start to crawl then ultimately crashes to desktop.

I have found that most times when the game apparently freezes, it really hasn't. It's just taking an incredibly long time to execute. I read a book during those periods (like when exchanging maps in a large game). So far, I haven't had any real freezes (it just seems like it because it can take incredibly long to resolve) and when the game does crash, it goes to desktop.

Obviously, my 2 Ghz processor, 750 MB ram, 256 MB nVidia video card is not enough, and up-grading would likely fix the problem.

However, I'm primarily an MMORPG player and am satisfied with my machine's performance in MMORPGs, even in under highly stressed conditions (it's not perfect, but better than average.)

So I'm not in the least bit inclined to upgrade hardware for an overly-bloated turn-based game nor report the problem to Microsoft. (I've not actually had any opportunity to do so, either.)

Upgrading won't always solve your problem. I just had a CTD about 40 seconds after I loaded my game from last night (which also ended with a "modified" CTD (one that also changed my display parameters to 4-bit color and 480X600 resolution).

My computer is a P4 3.4 GHz, 1GB RAM with a GeForce 6800 graphics card with 256 MB memory. Should work fine.

Otherwise, I'm not experiencing long delays during the computer's turn. The only problem (aside from the many crashes) is the several minute wait I must endure when I load a game (exiting the game takes but a second or two).
