  • Suprise attack ?

Is it not possible to suprise attack now?
By this i mean you cannot attack a city with open borders, and in cancelling open boarders your troops are removed as if by magic from the land!?

I didn't know there ever was a way to surprise attack like you suggest in Civs 4.

Are you referring to an earlier Civs game?

Why would you want to do that anyway?

All you would ever have to do to win the game is position your "friendly" armies near the cities you want and then cancel your open borders, declare war and take them.

That doesn't sound like fun. It sounds like an exploit. No offense.

I'm glad the game isn't designed that way.

Yeah i guess your right, but ut seesm odd when borders are cancelled and your units just fly over the map.

I think a solution woiuld be to allow open borders to either just non threatingn units, or perhaps only a limited number of units depending on their trust with you. As of course a whole army of units would cause concern!

The feature is good for stopping exploits like what you tried to do though.

Now that's a good idea. Because I agree with you that it should cause the ai concern when an army not belonging to them enters their territory. I know I pay attention when the ai loads up an army on my border!

Also if you aren't involved in a war that involves your 'friendly' civ as your ally, then maybe you should have to pay some form of tax or tribute based on what unit type is in their territory and how many of them are there?

Maybe this tax should be automatically levied ( or a one time large payout of tribute? ) when you enter their territory and if you can't afford to pay it every turn then random units of yours get forced back into your territory until you reach a number of units present there that you can afford, or else all units are returned to your territory and you take a -1 hit to relations?

Of course the ai should be required to do the same concerning armies in your territory also.

          Just something to think about.

It was, of course, something that the AI 'exploited' a lot in Civ3 as well - but yes, I do prefer the present arrangement.

I mean, think of it as your immigration officials confiscating enemy soldier's weapons while they're in your territory.

I definately prefer the current set up. I hated it when AIs would share borders with me, use my railroads, move an entire army outside my capital, and then declare war on me.

Also, when I would automate workers I always got ticked off when they would wander into foreign territory.

However, I do miss "sneak attacking" :-( Perhaps a hybrid system would work best.

                Don't mind me...

I'm just passing this incredible army through your territory on the way to attack a civilization that deserves it. I would never attack you!
