  • Anti-freeze tip

Have had lots of mid-game freezes so far with CIV4. Maybe not so strange since my pc is on the lower specs.

But today I changed the mouse sampling frequency from 100 to 40, and whoops - no more freezes, at least for the last three hours of play.

Don't know why or how, but it has so far worked for me.

where is this "mouse sampling frequency" setting?

I don't recall seeing such a choice in my setup....

You can also try lowering your colour depth to 16-bit.

Only works with a PS2 mouse I believe.

        Control Panel>Mouse>Hardware>Properties>Advanced Settings

A tip which saved my sanity.

And why now do graphics card not include 24- bit depth graphics and only 16-bit or 32-bit graphics?

              Especially a Geforce graphics card!

Alas, lowering the sampling rate on the mouse, or switching to an USB mose, doesn't help me at all.

                Thanks for the thought.

is there a way to set this in-game or via civilizationiv.ini, instead of having to change my native windows desktop bit-depth?

Thanks that seems to help somewhat

Looks like you have to do it on your desktop.

Honestly though there seems little difference. Maybe my eyes aren't good enough

Oh, I see a difference. Not big, but big enough.
