Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
If you have a large empire then building the Space Elevator in one of the big production cities isn't a problem and won't compromise general ship construction.

Actually, it's a production timesaver. Just don't start any spaceship production untill the elevator is finished, but instead or build laboratories/factories/power plants which speed up another 25% each or, if you have those already, more units. I did this once and was amazed how quickly I catched up with the AI on ship construction.
The cities I dedicate to space ship building already has all those things and has already built several of those parts before I even get to start it's production
Who needs units at this point... when I decide I need to build the space ship to win the game, it's already too late to destroy the civs that has started building it
Hmmm, when I was trying to figure out what the hidden requirement for Space Elevator, I thought you had to build it in a city built on a hill... guess that's not it.
I wonder if Coriolis force is a factor for building a space elevator near the equator. You wouldn't think twisting of the cable or elevator would be a major factor, but with a space elevator, you're talking about some large distances and forces...
Also, although I expect most people are aware of it, there is an undocumented requirement to the 3 Gorges Dam: it must be built in a city on a river.
Yes, but that one wasn't so hard to figure out since previous Civs had that requirement for hydro plants and Hoover dam. Still... tell us these things!
What's nice about the Space Elevator is that it can turn the tide in an actual space race, even if you only have a few more components left. Plus, you can rush build the elevator and you can't rush build spaceship parts.
I once had a very competitive space race with an AI Tokugawa, and I lost when a third civ finished the Space Elevaor before I could rush it. They basically won for Japan, but when Japan launched I was something like four turns away from launching. Had I secured that wonder, I'd have won the game (had I been able to build it in a higher production city I would have probably completed it too. But this was before I knew about the 30 degree realism feature).
It might come late in the space race, but if you plan to build it it can make a huge difference.
