  • KEY_CITY_NAME_ problem

In the XML/Civilizations folder I found where the city names are recorded, opened the file with Notepad and changed the names to upper/lower case (i.e. WASHINGTON to Washington). I did not affect any of the text around the name itself. Nevertheless, now the name comes up in the game as KEY_CITY_NAME_WASHINGTON. I can't figure out how to get it back!

I really don't feel like re-installing the whole thing just to get the original file back. Suggestions, please, it's truly annoying.

You didn't say exactly what you did to try to fix the problem, so did you simply try to change the name back to all caps?

If that doesn't help, or you still want to have the city name in upper/lower case, look at the file

    CIV4GameTextInfos_Cities.xml

in the Assets\XML\Text folder. This file also has the city names and perhaps the names in the two files need to match exactly.

Some unsolicited advice: Make backup copies of files before changing them!

THANK YOU! It worked and now I can move on to the next glitch! LOL.

By the way, I'm still slapping myself for not making a backup file first. I've been computing since the days of Apple ][ and really should have known better.
