No problem, I wish I could have gotten the reply in at the right time. It looks like your choices are pretty good anyways. Have fun wit' it

I don't have that problem (of course I have another problem, but that's another issue), and my configuration is the same as yours. My CPU is an Athlon64 3200+, what about you?

That's a crappy mobo you got there then. No SATA power cable

BTW don't forget to load the driver before you install Windows XP.

Yeah, first I had my eye on a mobo that cost ~80$ more. But I was on a budget... same goes for the case. I bought the cheapest one (~45$). I could easily have spent 120$ if I had the money...

But it all works fine except for a noisy CPU fan, but that´s budget cases for you

Say, I'm getting a new mobo today, and I allready have Athlon 64... Would switching to 64 bit OS do any good, performance-wise?

Not that I have a 64bit OS, or money to get one... And finding drivers for my vintage peripherals might be tad difficult...

                Just curious.

                  No, not really.

As long as the programs aren't 64 bit compiled, it won't do you any good ( possible in theory though), could even be a performance penalty.

Also, you mmay encounter problems with various drivers etc.

To go 64 OS wise, wait until Vista.

Yes, the problem exists starting on Turn 1. Moving my initial settler, as well as doing anything else, is like watching the game in extreme slow motion. My processor is only an AMD 1.6 GHz. Would that make a major difference even with the RAM and video I have?

ahem, or get Ubuntu, Gentoo or other amd64 flavoured linux distributions if you don't want to wait.

there is the small matter of incompatibility with a certain game though...
                      regards,

Hm. What is your video card and how old is your machine?

NVidia FX 5500. The machine itself might be getting a bit old, as it HP Pavilion from a couple of years ago. I'm trying to avoid replacing it for a little bit longer, though.

The question is, if the card can handle Doom 3 why should it has problems with Civ 4?
