  • I´m off to buy a new computer

After playing a few agonizingly slow couple of games I´ve finally decided it´s time for major overhaul in the computer department. Unfortunately I´m still on a fairly tight budget so the 19" Samsung 913N TFT (8,5 ms response time) I´ve been drooling over will have to be a later addition so is the extra 512 Mb of RAM But I´m hoping the game will run better on this machine.

    MoBo: Gigabyte GA 81915 PL-G
    CPU: P4 630 3.0 GHz
Graphics: Leadtek GeForce 6600 256 Mb
    Memory: PC3200 DDR 512 Mb
HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200 Gb

I have nothing else planned this weekend except tinkering with the computer and playing Civ (I hope )

    Wish me luck!

Get an AMD Athlon 64 instead.

Also if your board is a dual-channel one then you need two sticks of RAM.

I'd say, chose 1024 MB RAM anyway, that's about as imporant as the 256MB GeForce card. (which is working fine at my side)

Imagine that you buy this new computer, and it will still not work...........

Yes, I agree with Cybershy. You'll want 1GB memory.

1GB RAM is nice, but you can use a large paging file to offset the memory leak in Civ 4.

            512 is not enough
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

You sure? I seem to recall my dual-channel system working fine with one 256MB stick. (Waaayyy tight budget... )
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

I would rather use my old graphics board for a few month longer than buying just 512 megs of ram.
Especially if it is for Civilization, that even with 1 gig still seems to shovel data back and forth within the paging file like no game that i played before.

er, explain pc-asses why a monitor can be so important (beside dimensions)

I'd say it's main - though by far it's only - use is for looking at things.

A good monitor is a good - if not the best - investment though. Better on the eyes, more workspace, etc...

Never go el cheapo on the monitor!

Hooray for Zoidberg! How can Zoidberg afford a computer, though?

I agree, more workspace (to get cluttered with other stuff )
