  • Minor Nation (?)

    Darn it!

Does anyone remember where Minor Nation is described or explained?

I am either blind or stupid (or possibly both). I couldn't find it, but I remember reading about it.

hopefully someone can just give me a quick 2 second answer and then I can go read more.

    thanks,

Are you talking about barbarian cities? If you let them sit there long enough, I know that they make buildings and workers. Is it possible that they make settlers too? If they did then they could indeed become a "minor nation" of sorts.

I don't believe it's explained anywhere--I first saw the concept in the Greek World scenario.

It appears to be a sort of "let's use one civ to act as a bunch of other people" sort of thing. I think. The minor civs there are, for example, the Greek colonies. They act like Barbarians in that they're always at war with you, and you can't do diplomacy with them, but they don't seem to be as aggressive as Barbs. (And, they're there from the start, they don't spawn later in fogged areas.)

I haven't looked closely to see what's actually going on under the covers.

There are perminant war and perminant peace options in the game that could easily be used for mods to create those types of civs.

If you tweak the leader stats for the barbarian leader, you can set up such a minor civ. I did so, and the bugger's going around settling behind other peoples backs.

          He founded Judaism and Islam!

I wiped the lot out between 1600 and 1700. =)

AFAICT a minor civ is exactly like a regular civ, but they can't interact diplomatically with anyone else. It's not always permanent war--the Byzantines in 1000AD are set to peace and open borders with France, Germany, and England to allow the Crusades. I don't know if it's possible to force war with a peaceful minor civ (by invading or attacking their units.)
